The Fortnightly Review 2 — 2011
Jorge Ledesma
Posted on October 17th, 2011
These past two weeks have been filled with lots of emotions. First, I said good bye to a friend I only met for a few days – the Olympus EPL2 and secondly I greeted a new one – the Panasonic GF1, admired and coveted by many, and thirdly I got to photograph a small section of Little Havana.
Photography for me is a very emotional craft.
If I feel like photographing, which more often than not I do, then its a therapeutic break which I often seek, but if I don’t, then I don’t try to go out just for the sake of photographing but today all engines were running.
Just to open, I must say that if you get a chance to visit Miami and you’re a fellow tog, then its a pit stop you must do. From my own personal experience, I can tell you that the culture is not to conducive towards roaming around or better said, veering off Calle Ocho and just going on random photo walk because it simply not one of those places. That’s not to say its unsafe but you definitely have to be careful who your shutter captures and although the law is in your side, street laws are always different, if you know what mean. With that said – welcome to Little Havana who’s rich history will surely have something for everybody.
I went there on assignment(as l like to call it) and dressed the part – a tourist, Crocodile Dundee hat and all. Then I just glide through the streets often times asking pertinent questions that will spark conversations. The cool thing is that if you go around 12-4pm on most days, Tour buses are actually there with loads of people doing their tourist thing around and its a lot easier to mix in. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn’t but here is the story of Little Havana∗

Beautiful shot, I like the tones.
Very nice photography, works great in B&W……!!!
Her silhouette in that umbrella is terrific. Nice puffs of cotton in the sky as well.
The cloud is very wonderful, and the processing is lovely!
As seen in the Available Light / Existing Light pool

Nice to see the outline through the brolly. The sky looks as if it’s straight out of a science fiction movie! Good one.

love these hard luck looking guys – can almost hear springsteen playing in the background
They do speak, Jorge. Volumes. Love the 90 degree juxtaposition of the one staring ahead, the other blase. Great timing & composition here.
Good contrast and love the processing!
A nice group of images, Jorge. Selling a camera is always hard, haha. I’m considering selling the EP3 now, as it’s just too close in size to the M9 to make it useful. Have been loving the old film Ricoh GR1V lately
Thanks Josh, I like what you’ve been doing with the EP3 lately but I think you’re point is well taken o the size comparison. GR1V ah, sweet, Daido, all the way.
Una gran foto. Premiada en el grupo:
